Are you kidding me?  I'm actually writing on xanga?  How long has it been... let's see... the middle of May!  I know, I know... I've turned my coat to FB.  Well, fortunately I've found many of my old xanga friends lurking there so we still keep in touch! Robyn, Michelle, Mamamentor, all of her kids, Kimmy Sparks.  I do have to admit that FB is so much easier to keep in touch and it doesn't have any stress of being creative with writing.  Not my long suite.  Anyway, I just stopped in to see what's going on and catching up on my "mamamentor lurking"

We had a wonderful weekend... the grandkids were here visiting their dad.  They are such sweethearts.  They love coming every other weekend.  We always try to make it really special for them.  Saturday we all went up to Scottsdale to ride bikes and scooters in Indian Bend Wash.  It was a beautiful day about 85 degrees.  We picnicked by a pond and the ducks and birds kept us busy.  The little ones took off their shoes and waded in the brook nearby.  We rode down to the other end of the park so the kids could see the Wedge, a "famous" skateboarding place and as we were getting close we came upon a mass of adult men playing rugby.  I stood and watched for a bit.  It is quite amusing to see these men crowd in a circle around the ball and just as it looks like they have worked up enough steam to move a mountain they all break apart and someone kicks the ball.  I don't know anything about it but it seemed really exciting and fun to watch.  One of the teams was the Tempe Rugby Club http://www.temperugby.com/ (it's been so long since I posted on a regular basis I forgot how to link)I read a little bit about them and found that they have been invited to South Africa for the first annual Social Rugby World Championships in Capetown in June 13-26, 2009 (www.srwc2009.com )... somehow this world gets smaller and smaller!

Sunday we all went to church.  The kids go into the service with us although the church has a huge children's church... the kids just love to sit in the big people's church and sing.  Normally we go on Saturday night but Sunday worked better for us this week.  A couple of weekends ago we were in church sitting in our normal balcony seats and a man a few rows in front of us died.  He died of cardiac arrest.  He made an odd sound like someone slurping the last bit of soda out of a straw then he just fell over.  It just so happened that a doctor was on the same row with him and there were 3 nurses in close proximity. Of course, all the activity disrupted church so they just suspended the service for a while and asked people to just pray until all the paramedics and police and firemen were done.  They used the paddles on him 3 times and were still trying to resuscitate him as they were taking him out.  The one thing I was touched by was this: the last thing this man did in his life was to partake of communion celebrating our Lord and Savior's death and resurrection.

Last night we celebrated hubby's birthday.  Everyone was here.  We grilled chicken on the barbie and celebrated with the "giving of the gifts".  A grand time!

I'll be going back to Atlanta on Thursday to visit my mom and dad.  The news isn't good... mom weakens everyday and is in more and more pain.  Dad gave her the max dosage of morphine today and finally she got some rest.  Please still pray for my mom.  It is so hard to see her suffer.  She has spent her life giving to our family and to see her like this takes nerves of steel.

Well, hubby is bringing home pizza tonight and I'm looking forward to eating it!

A little help would be helpful:

I wish I knew how to make a pretty background page like everyone else has.  My pages are so boring.  I just don't know how to do anything with this new xanga... maybe someone out there can at least help me figure out how to add a little interesting wallpaper to my page.

    Spring hike:

Hubby and I went on an 8 mile hike Saturday.  I was enjoying myself until we came upon a rattlesnake.  <<shudder>> I am not fond of reptiles.   I am grateful that they rattle so you know they are there. He was sitting all curled up in a bush just inches away rattling the big fat rattle at the end of his tail.  He was about as big around as my upper arm.  Thank goodness after a few pebbles were tossed his way he slithered down the mountain!

    hike (5)

Hubby hoofing it down the trail.

    hike (6)

Huge rock formations... if you squint it looks like it is inhabited by a couple of monkeys.

    hike

There was lots of running water out in the desert albeit some of it was green.

    hike (1)

Another rock formation nicely shading us from the sun

    hike (2)

A nice shady lunch spot beneath an old Cottonwood tree.

    hike (4)

    Balancing rocks

    hike (3)

Me... just three more miles to go!  We got a little sunburned and a lot of exercise!

    Happy Birthday!

Tonight everyone came over, we cooked out steaks (which were delicious) and had a small birthday party in honor of our younger son's 28th birthday.  It was a really nice evening.  We ate al fresco with candlelight and had a beautiful sunset as a backdrop.  Did I mention the steaks were delicious?
